Beacons Draw Even in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, MA (October 30, 2024) – The UMass Boston women's soccer team recorded 15 shots in a 0-0 draw against the Bridgewater State University Bears, in a non-conference away game for the Beacons on Wednesday afternoon.
The Basics:
UMass Boston 0 – 0 Bridgewater State University
UMass Boston: 10-3-5 (5-1-1 Little East Conference)
Bridgewater State University: 9-4-3 (5-0-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, MASCAC.)
How It Happened:
  • Junior forward Andrea Rivera (San Juan, P.R.) kicked things off for the Beacons, registering the game's first shot and forcing a save from the Bears' keeper, Logan Levesque. Senior goalkeeper Isabella O'Connell (Abington, Mass.) got the starter's nod today, and immediately made her presence known, registering a save two minutes into play.
  • The first half was very back-and-forth between the two teams. UMass Boston would develop multiple chances but were faltered by either offside calls, fouls, or unsuccessful shots. The Beacons' backline would reciprocate the energy, protecting O'Connell enough to keep the Bears scoreless in the first half.
  • The second half turned up the intensity. Senior defender Georgia Bonney (Kingston, Mass.) picked up the game's first and the Beacons' only yellow card, following a shot on goal for Bonney that forced another Levesque save. Rivera's final attempt with under two minutes remaining was once again stopped between the posts, as both defenses kept a clean sheet in the non-conference draw
By The Numbers:
  • The Beacons were not short of chances, providing 15 total shots (nine on target) in the effort. The Reigning LEC Rookie of the Week, Daniella Celotto (Prospect, Conn.) coupled with Rivera to lead the way offensively. Celotto produced five shots (two on target) for a team-high in shots, while Rivera produced three shots on target. O'Connell thwarted nine shots for her first clean sheet of the season against 19 shots (nine on target). O'Connell's season record jumps to 3-2-3.
  • The game was eerily similar on the stat sheet. Both teams produced nine shots on target, made nine saves in a 0-0 shutout, each had three chances from the corner. The foul count was 12: 11 (BSU: UMB) and each team received one yellow card.
Who's Next:
  • The Beacons will play host to the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday at 3:30 p.m in the LEC Regular Season finale. UMass Boston Athletics and the women's soccer team will celebrate the long-standing tradition of senior day on Friday by honoring the graduating class in a pregame ceremony.
