BOSTON, MA (October 26th, 2024) It was another beautiful autumn day today, perfect for a soccer match between the UMass Boston Beacon's and their opponents, Vermont State University of Castleton Spartans. UMB's goalkeeper, Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA), continues his, now 5 game, streak of shut-outs with today's 0-0 draw.
The Basics
Final Score: UMB 0 - 0 VTSU
UMB Beacon's: 8-1-5 (5-0-2)
VTSU Spartans: 6-5-5 (2-4-1)
How It Happened
-
Ramirez was fortunate that his foul inside the box, and subsequent yellow card, did not lead to a score as the Spartan's Stanley Anderson (Andes, NY) could not capitalize on the penalty shot, missing wide left.
By The Numbers
-
The Beacon's led the way across the stat sheet starting with several shots in the opening minutes of the contest. UMass had an outrageous total of shot attempts with 33, of which over half (18) were on target. Leading to 18 saves for the VTSU goalkeeper, Xander Berthiaume (Colchester, VT). The Spartan's attempted 9 shots, of which only 3 were on target.
-
These competitors kept a semi-clean game today with only 13 committed fouls combined between the two units (UMB with 6, VTSU with 7). However, the fouls resulted in two Beacon's receiving a yellow card (Andy Ramirez and Logan Erickson-Potter (Swansea, MA)) and one Spartan received a frustration foul with an adjoining yellow card (Matt Spiller (Fairfax, VT)) in the 87th minute.
Who's Next?
-
Coming up, the Beacon's will be hosting the Fitchburg State Falcons on Tuesday, October 29th promptly at noon. UMass will be looking to end the Falcons 4 game winning streak in their final home game of the 2024-2025 regular season.
