Beacon’s Lead LEC With 5-Game Win Streak

DANBURY, CT (October 19th, 2024) --- The Beacons have taken hold of the top record in the Little East Conference (LEC) with a 3 to 0 victory over the Wolves of Western Connecticut. This victory brings the men's winning streak to 5 in a row with an undefeated conference record of 5-0-1.

The Basics

FINAL SCORE: UMB 3 – 0 West Conn.

UMass Boston Record: 7-1-4 (5-0-1 LEC)

Western Connecticut Record: 11-4-2 (5-1-0 LEC)

How It Happened

  • UMass Boston was off to a hot start, scoring 2 goals within the first 15 minutes of play. Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Bra.) scored the opening goal of the match (his 4th of the season) off an assist the came from Logan Erickson-Potter (Swansea, MA) during the 11th minute of the game.

  • Just over a minute later and the Beacons got another shot resulting in an increase on the scoreboard to go up 2-0 in the 12th minute. The tally came from Patrick Garcia (Brookline, Mass.), for his fourth goal of the season, with Diego Gisholt (Tijuana, Mexico) receiving credit for the assist.

  • The final goal of the match occurred during the 68th minute. Following an early assist, Logan Erickson-Potter got one into the score column for his fourth goal of the season and he was assisted on the goal by Pedro De Amorrortu (Buenos Aires, Argentina).

By The Numbers

  • The breakdown of shots attempted and shots on target would suggest that the Beacons were playing stellar defense with multiple blocked shots as the Wolves had nearly twice the attempts and on target shots when compared to UMass Boston. The Wolves had nine shots on target with 18 attempted, while the Beacons had only four shots on target and attempted just 10 in total.

  • This led to nine saves for UMB's goalkeeper, Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA), which was the most action the keeper has seen in during the team's win streak. He has been a big contributor to this streak only allowing 2 goals over the past six contests including today's performance.

  • Despite the Wolves receiving the nod on corners, UMB attempted three while the Wolves had seven, and winning the foul battle, the Wolves couldn't muster any effective attack against the strong defense of UMass Boston. This led to a late frustration foul and a yellow card on Western Connecticut's side. The yellow was awarded to Zachary Benson (Milford, CT) in the 88th minute of the match.

Who's Next?

  • UMass Boston is on their way to securing the 1st seed and homefield for the LEC tournament as they haven't received a single loss during the past 10 matches. Now they set the Beacon spotlight onto Worcester State University as they will travel to Worcester for a night game beginning at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 23rd.
