HOW IT HAPPENED
Keriann Farina and
Alexah Potter connected on the game's opening possession to give the Beacons a quick 2-0 lead. A 5-0 Dartmouth run put the Corsairs up by three but a
Sibayla Jensen bucket cut the deficit to one.
The gap grew as large as six in favor of the Corsairs with three minutes to play, but a
Sophie Bradbury triple and a Farina jumper cut it back to a one-point game with a minute to play. UMD beat the buzzer with a last second layup to take a 14-11 lead into the second quarter.
The Beacons struck early in the second, but the Corsairs had a response for each bucket. A pair of sustained runs saw UMD take a double-digit lead into the final minute of the half. Jensen put down a bucket on the final possession of the frame to cut the deficit to eight points.Â
A massive third quarter saw the Corsairs build out a 20 point advantage heading into the final frame. The Beacons were able to climb within 15 in the fourth, but the game was well in hand for the hosts. UMD took the game by a final score of 62-44.
