Krivstov and Foley Combine For Six Points In Big Win Over Pilgrims.

BOSTON, MA (January 19, 2024) – The UMass Boston men's hockey team gave the Beacons fans at the Edward T. Barry Rink a treat in a 5-3 win over New England Hockey Conference opponents the Pilgrims of New England College behind a combined six points from graduate forward Conor Foley and sophomore forward Jazz Krivstov, as the two combined for two goals and four assists.

Seven players notched an assist for the UMass Boston, along with five different goal scorers. Krivstov and Foley each scored a goal and two assists to lead the way for the Beacons on the offensive end. Krivstov picked up both his assists in the first period, dishing out dimes on goals from sophomore forward Jude Kurtas, and junior forward Evan Googins. Foley also tallied his goal early on, and picked up his first assist on the Googins goal. Senior defenseman Kevin Sadovski tallied the final goal for the Beacons in the final period to put an end to an offensive onslaught against a conference opponent.  Sadovski led the game on both ends of the ice, putting five shots on target and blocking two shots. First-year forward Jack Mortson, along with Foley, went nearly perfect in the faceoff circle. Foley won 20 of the 24 drops he faced, and Mortson secured 14 of his 18 faceoffs. Freshman goalie Antonio Tarantino took care of business for UMass Boston between the posts, stopping 23 of the 26 total shots he faced.

The Beacons got off to a blistering hot start, with Kurtas opening the score sheet just under three minutes following junior forward Koyle Bankauskas' opening puck-drop win. Kurtas connected from Bankauskas and Krivstov, but the Beacs were just beginning to get the wheels turning. With 14 minutes expired in the first period, the Beacons increased their lead to two following Foley's goal from junior forward Devin Moran. Their hot start was still cooking, as Googins would tally one more in the first period to put the Beacons up by a comfortable three goals following the initial 20 minutes. UMass Boston's defense allowed only five shots from the Pilgrims in the first period, with Tarantino stopping everything early on.

The second period saw the Pilgrims gain back some of the momentum they lost in the first period, as they were able to cut the Beacons' three-goal lead to just one following the second period. Pilgrims' goals scored by Gunnar Sibley, and Graham Padgitt to bring the Pilgrims to within striking distance. Sibley struck nylon just over five minutes into the second, with Padgitt striking again on the Pilgrims' power play. The Beacons were able to put 10 shots on goal, however couldn't beat the Pilgrims' keeper in the second.

The Pilgrims shocked the home crowd with an early equalizer in the third period to tie things even at three goals apiece, from a goal by Jack Herron just mere seconds into the third period. NEHC hockey fans were in for a thrilling finish, as the remaining 19 minutes would be a back-and-forth battle between two NEHC opponents. A tight seven minutes would tick by before Sadovski's strike from the point took the Pilgrims by surprise as his goal would break the tie and halt the comeback from New England College. Sadovski's game-winner came off the sticks of first-year forward Chris Repmann and Mortson as this would serve as the Beacons' game-winner, but not the final goal of the day. Krivstov added to his two assists from the first period with a final power-play goal 12 minutes into the third period, off assists by Foley and Sadovski to give the Beacons their final goal of the day in the 5-3 win over the New England College Pilgrims.

With the home win on the night, the Beacons advance to 6-10-2 overall this season, while going 4-7 in the NEHC.
