HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons and Thoroughbreds looked well matched through one period of play on Saturday afternoon. The offense fired off 11 shots while
Sam Best saved all 12 he saw. With both goalies standing tall, the game remained scoreless after the first 20 minutes.
The excellent goalie play continued in the second period, as Skidmore's Tate Brandon stopped all 13 UMass Boston shot attempts. Facing no shortage of tests himself, Best saved 17 straight shots to open the period and looked to be sending the game to the third period tied 0-0. However, with just 15 seconds left to play, Skidmore finally found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
The Thoroughbreds tacked on three more late goals, two of which came with an empty UMass Boston net, to secure the 4-1 victory.
