WEYMOUTH, Mass. - UMas Boston Women's Tennis got right back to their old ways on Saturday evening. The Reigning Little East Conference champions defeated Salem State University in their conference opener, sweeping the Vikings 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The combination of UMass Boston's most and least experienced players took care of business to open doubles play on Saturday. Playing their first match as partners, Senior Lydia Chan and Freshman Zainab Patel swept their opponents from Salem State, 8-0. 

Tailing just behind Patel and Chan, Elena Albano and Ayonna Stuppard improved to 2-0 as a duo this season, defeating their counterparts 8-1. Sandra Watson and Kaya-Lilliana Rutkowski finished off the doubles sweep for the Beacons, winning their match 8-3.

The UMass Boston dominance continued into the singles matches. Albano, Chan, and Watson all swept their respective opponents to secure the match victory for the Beacons. Carney, Stuppard, and Shreya Saravana-Rakshana combined to drop just five sets on their way to victory in their respective matches. 

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Beacons have swept seven matches since the start of the 2022-2023 season
• Chan did not drop a set in doubles or singles
• Albano and Stuppard are 11-5 in their last 16 doubles matches
