BOSTON, Mass. – It was a day of firsts for UMass Boston Men's Tennis who put on an electric performance on Tuesday afternoon against Castleton University in their Little East Conference matchup and spring home opener. Led by the dynamic doubles debut of sophomore
Karsten Bourgoine and freshman Grady Friendman, the Beacons notched their first win and first LEC win of the season with a 7-2 victory over Castleton University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a clean sweep for the Beacons in the doubles as Bourgoine and Friedman debuted in the #3 Doubles against junior Stanley Andersen and senior Andy Phelan, winning in electric fashion, 8-3. That 8-3 victory would also be the same for sophomore
Felix Nguyen and junior transfer
Patrick Ramos who took the #1 Singles against sophomore Miki Almirall and senior Phil Kluge in identical fashion.
After trailing 3-0 early on in the #2 Doubles, sophomore
Melvin Nina and freshman
Maxwell Dill battled back against juniors Jason Lipscomb and Connor Davis to secure the Beacons sweep of the doubles with a narrow 8-6 win.
Ramos would give the Beacons their fourth win of the day, taking care of business in the #1 Singles against Almirall in two sets, 6-2 and 6-0. Nina would clinch victory for the Beacons in the #3 Singles a short while later, dispatching of Davis in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
The Spartans would get their first win of the day in the #4 Singles when Lipscomb took down Nguyen with identical 6-1 set wins while Dill defeated Kluge in the #2 Singles in three sets after losing the first 6-1, winning the second set 6-4, and taking the tiebreaker set 10-6.
In his first singles match of the season, Friedman got his first career win for UMass Boston Men's Tennis with a two-set victory over Phelan, 6-3 and 6-1. Bourgoine, his doubles partner, would fall in three sets to Andersen, losing the tiebreaker set 10-6.

UMass Boston heads on the road to take on Wheaton College (Mass.) on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM. The Beacons last faced the Lyons back during the 2009-10 season in which they lost 9-0. In the all-time series, UMass Boston is 0-3 and has not one a match during play.
