BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward
Malik Lorquet notched his 17
th double-double of the season, scoring 28 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, and set the all-time career rebounding record, surpassing Terry Kennedy's record of 788 rebounds, as UMass Boston Men's Basketball snapped a three-game losing streak and got back in the win column with an 82-66 victory over Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 9-5, Plymouth State responded with a 9-0 run that included four free throws to take a 14-9 edge on UMass Boston with 14:14 remaining in the first half. Momentum would shift in the game with UMass Boston trailing by three, 16-13, when Lorquet made an emphatic dunk over the head of six-foot, nine-inch freshman center Avery Hazelton spurring a 10-0 run for the Beacons that saw them never relinquish the lead again.
Plymouth State would pull within two, 29-27, after a basket-and-one from Hazelton and trail by three, 32-29, heading into halftime after a layup from junior guard Kyler Bosse in the final minute. An 8-0 run in the opening minute and a half of the second half would give the Beacons their first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 40-29, after a three from senior guard
Tommy Burris.
The Beacon lead would expand to as many as 21 points with 1:42 left in the game as Lorquet's big game in which he shot 50% from the floor and 8-of-11 from the free throw line was more than enough to propel UMass Boston to their double-digit home victory.

- Returning from his four game absence, freshman guard Xavier McKenzie notched 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting while going 7-of-8 from the free throw line
- Freshman forward Connor Walden followed up his breakout game against WestConn with a 4-for-8 performance from the field with 11 points
- As a team, UMass Boston shot 45.6% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc
- Malik Lorquet now has 933 career points, putting him 67 points away from becoming the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points
WHO'S NEXT
UMass Boston closes out their two-game homestand next week on Wednesday evening against Castleton University at the Clark Athletic Center at 7:30 PM. In the first matchup between the two teams, the Beacons came away with a dominant 76-47 road victory over the Spartans, improving to 7-0 all time against them.
