QUINCY, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Basketball tied up Tuesday night's game with a dominant third quarter before eventually falling to Eastern Nazarene by a score of 68-61 in their final game before the holiday break.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 61, Eastern Nazarene College 68
UMass Boston (3-6, 1-2 LEC)
Eastern Nazarene College (7-5, 2-3 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Three straight baskets from
Tatiannah Fevry helped the Beacons build out an early 8-2 lead in the first quarter. An Eastern Nazarene bucket put an end to the Fevry run, only to spark two made free throws and a three-pointer from
Sophie Bradbury for a solo five-point run. An 11-1 run to close out the quarter sent the Lions into the second quarter with a 15-14 lead.
The Eastern Nazarene advantage grew as large as 14 points in the second quarter. A trio of free throws to end the half stopped the bleeding a bit but sent the Beacons into halftime trailing by 11.
Samora Merchant's six points in the first six minutes of the second half helped the Beacons cut their deficit down to four. A late
Skyeler Sandison free throw tied the game up less than nine minutes after the Beacons had trailed by double-digits. A
Kayla Jackson layup in the closing seconds of the third quarter sent the teams into the fourth knotted at 45.
Jackson exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of her season-high 14 points in the final frame. The rest of the Beacons, however, combined for just six points. A tied game with just under three minutes to play quickly turned into a seven-point victory for the Lions.
