BOSTON, MA (November 3, 2023) – The UMASS men's ice hockey team fell 7-3 against Skidmore College following their home opener at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. The Thoroughbreds proved to be too much for the Beacons, as they jumped out to an early lead and the Beacons were unable to bring the deficit within to striking distance.
Junior Forward Ty Matthews led the Beacons outright in shot attempts with a team-high of six shots toward goal. Despite the loss, it would be the underclassmen to bring the energy for the Beacons, as they showed signs of fight throughout the game with goals scored by sophomore forward
Jude Kurtas, and first-year forwards
Jacob Kaminski and
Jack Mortson. Skidmore only slightly edged out the Beacons in total shots toward goal, firing off 48 shots compared to the Beacon's 40. The Beacons shared goalie responsibilities tonight between freshman keepers
Antonio Tarantino and
Sal Carabelli, as the two accrued 41 total saves on the day, with Tarantino recording 26 saves, and Carabelli recording 15 saves on the evening.
Senior forward
Jacob Banks, junior forward
Devin Moran, and graduate forward
Conor Foley each facilitated for the Beacons tonight as they each recorded an assist from the evening.
Through three games played the current team leaders include first-year forward
Chris Repmann with two goals and two assists, good for four points and first on the team. He is followed by Kurtas and junior forward Koyle Bankauskas who each have three points, good for a tie for second place in total season points.
Following today's contest, the Beacons fall to 0-2-1, as the Thoroughbreds improve to 2-0.
The Beacons will look to bounce back from the tough loss tomorrow, Saturday November 4 against Vermont State University Castleton from the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston, Massachusetts. Tune into
