BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Ice Hockey battled defending national runner-up Amherst College in the semifinal round of the 16th Annual Codfish Bowl Tournament at Edward T. Barry Ice Rink on Saturday afternoon, holding the Mammoths to one goal but falling by a final score of 1-0.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 0, Amherst College 1
UMass Boston (3-4-3, 2-2-2 NEHC)
Amherst College (3-0-0, 2-0-0 NESCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the visitors from Amherst dominating time of possession in the opening period, the teams went into the first intermission in a scoreless tie.
Leah Bosch saved all 12 of the Mammoths' shots to keep them off the board.
The stalwart effort by Bosch gave way less than a minute into the second period when Amherst's Rylee Glennon slipped a puck past the Beacons' goalie for the opening score.
The final 39 minutes of the game saw 20 shots from the Mammoths, all of which found the mitt of Bosch. Her dominant efforts to start and finish the game were not quite enough as the early second-period score proved to be the only one. Amherst held on for the 1-0 shutout.
