BOSTON, MA (November 10, 2023)—The UMASS Boston Beacons women's ice hockey team was shocked by the Norwich University Cadets from Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston, MA in a 5-1 loss on Friday night, as the Cadets ran away with the lead early in the game off a Norwich first-year forward Livia Brooks' hat trick to put them in prime position to secure the "W" from the end of the first period.
The Beacons faired well despite the loss, as they were able to locate the net with 11 different shot attempts, forcing the Cadet's senior keeper Leocadia Clark to make 10 saves on the evening. The Beacon's senior forward
Katie Wilbert and first-year forward
Jenna Majewski each led the Beacs offensively with three shots toward goal.
The Beacons were able to find consolation through their fire in the third period, off a goal from junior forward
Allie Reifler, assisted by junior forward
Liz Kramp. Junior defender
Margeaux Butters led the team in blocked shot attempts, blocking four of the Cadet's 41 shots on the evening.
The Beacon's sophomore keeper
Leah Bosch recorded 36 saves on 41 shots, good for an 87% save percentage.
With the Beacon's loss tonight, they fall to 1-2-2 on the season, 0-2-1 in the New England Hockey Conference, with the Cadets improving to 2-2 this season, 2-1-0 in the NEHC.
