NORTHFIELD, V.T. - UMass Boston Men's Ice Hockey was a thorn in the side of hosting Norwich University on Friday night, keeping the Cadets within striking distance throughout. Ultimately, though, the Beacons could not pull out the victory, falling by a final score of 4-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
An early UMass Boston penalty gifted the Cadets a pristine scoring opportunity just four minutes into the game. Norwich's Patrick Del Vecchio netted the opening score with less than five minutes run off the clock.
As the final minute of the opening period drew to a close, it appeared that the Beacons would have to wait until after the intermission to find a tying goal. That was until sensational senior transfer
Kevin Sadovski ripped the twine with his third goal of his debut season. With less than 20 seconds left on the clock, the game was tied at one.
Once again, the second period saw Norwich find paydirt quickly, retaking a one-goal lead less than six minutes into the frame.
A third goal, scored with just over five minutes left to play in the second period, extended the Cadets' lead to two and could have been a backbreaker if not for the Sadovski goal that followed just 18 seconds later. His fourth goal in as many games with the program cut the deficit back down to one, 3-2.
Less than three minutes after the Sadovski goal, a UMass Boston power play turned sideways. The Cadets netted a shorthanded goal to stretch their lead back to two, 4-2.
It was clear that a sense of urgency had been expressed in the UMass Boston locker room as soon as they reemerged from the second intermission. Just 26 seconds into the third period,
Jude Kurtas took a pass from Chris Reppman and capitalized, sending home his third score of the season to cut the deficit back to one, 4-3.
The opening 30 seconds turned out to be an inappropriate opening for the final frame. Both goalies racked up saves and neither offense was able to put a puck into the net, holding the final score at 4-3.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sadovski is the only UMass Boston player to score multiple goals in a game this season, doing so in each of the last two

- Sam Best settled in for the third period, making 11 of his 27 saves in the final frame
