BOSTON, Mass. - UMass Boston Women's Soccer's defense continued to impress on Saturday afternoon. Still, their offense struggled to find its rhythm, dueling Keene State College to a scoreless tie.
THE BASICS
UMass Boston 0, Keene State College 0
UMass Boston (5-3-5, 2-0-2 LEC)
Keene State College (6-2-4, 2-0-3 LEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
After holding Suffolk scoreless in her 45 minutes of work earlier in the week,
Julia Cote was a brick wall in net once again. She saved both shots wagered by the Owls, including an 84th-minute attempt that would have given Keene State the victory.
Like the Owls, the Beacons' offense was stumped by a strong defensive presence. UMass Boston had chances to win the game late but could not find the opportunity they needed to break the tie. With both defenses holding strong, the game finished in a 0-0 draw.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Beacons' three-game shutout streak is their longest since they held four straight opponents without a score from October 22-November 1 of 2022
- Cote's shutout lowered her goals against average to 1.50 on the season, contributing to a 1.54 average for the entire unit
- Both teams took three shots on goal while UMass Boston held a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks
- The Beacons are undefeated in their last six matchups with the Owls, improving their record in the all-time series to 9-17-4
WHO'S NEXT
The Beacons will return to James Cotter field on Wednesday, October 11 when they play host to the University of Southern Maine. The Huskies are undefeated on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
