Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw on Senior Night

BOSTON, Mass. - A goal for each side in the early goings of the second half was the only scoring to speak of on Wednesday night. UMass Boston Women's Soccer battled Bridgewater State University to a 1-1 tie in their final home match of the season.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 1, Bridgewater State University 1

UMass Boston (6-4-8, 3-1-3 LEC)
Bridgewater State University (9-5-1, 6-0-0 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of Wednesday's match was a quiet one with Isabella O'Connell saving all three shots she faced and the UMass Boston offense failing to wager a shot on goal until the final seconds of the frame.

Both offenses came out firing in the second half. After two Beacons' shots found the gloves of the Bridgewater State goalie, Andrea Rivera was able to break the scoreless tie by netting her sixth goal of the season to put her team up 1-0.

The Bears were quick to respond. The following possession saw Olivia Robarge use a corner kick to give Sydney Dewhurst a feed right where she needed it. The 55th minute equalizer came less than two minutes after Rivera opened the scoring.

The final 35 minutes of play were a defensive struggle with both team's wagering shots on goal but neither offense finding the back of the net.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Rivera ranks second on the UMass Boston roster with six goals this season
  • O'Connell saved all four shots she faced in her 45 minutes in net
