HOW IT HAPPENED
After a stretch of low-scoring matches, UMass Boston found a score early. Freshman
Christina LaFauci took a pass from
Kaylee Haynes to open up a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. Less than four minutes later,
Chloe Shapiro found the back of the net from distance, sending a shot over the head of the Westfield goalie from 30 yards out.
Trailing 2-0 early, the Owls turned to their leading scorer in Delaney Parker who made good on an assist from Tori Dodge in the 36th minute to cut the UMass Boston lead back down to one.
In the early going of the second half, the Beacons got a contribution from their own leading scorer. Haynes put her shot into the back of the net for the seventh time this season and the 24th time in her career, extending the UMass Boston advantage to 3-1.
In a span of seven minutes, Parker singlehandedly erased the Owls' deficit. She struck on an unassisted goal in the 58th minute and got right back to work to finish the hat trick in the 65th.
Both defenses stood tall for the final 25 minutes, cementing the Beacons' seventh tie of the season.Â
