Keene State College (8-12, 2-3 LEC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening set, the Beacons used a massive 11-4 run to turn a 13-9 advantage into a match point opportunity. The run was boosted by a pair of kills from
Livia Trindade and service aces from
Ruby Ackerman and
Amelia Devlin. Devlin's .59 aces per set rank third in the Little East Conference. A kill from
Taryn Broughal finished off the set 25-14, giving the Beacons a quick 1-0 lead.
The second set of the match was much more contested with both teams struggling to open up a sizeable lead. Freshman standout
Mya Perron took the service line with a 17-15 lead and did not surrender the serve until the score was 22-15. The 5-0 run was supported by Broughal who contributed back-to-back kills and a block. Devlin assisted on a pair of
Lauren Westlund kills and
Ally Dean added a service ace to close out the set 25-16.
A pair of sizeable victories to open the match set the stage for a battle as the Beacons looked to clinch the sweep. A 15-11 lead in the third set quickly flipped to a 17-15 deficit following a 6-0 Owl run. Needing a run of their own, a hot hand stepped to the service line for UMass Boston. Devlin provided two more aces to bolster a 5-0 Beacon run, taking back the lead. Devlin finished off the stellar performance by assisting on Westlund's set-clinching kill, securing the 3-0 sweep for the Beacons.Â
