UMass Boston (1-1-1)
Skidmore College (1-0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Thoroughbreds got on the scoreboard in the 12
th minute on just their second shot of the game. Senior forward Finn Weber tapped the ball across three Beacon defenders in the box to Ibrahim on the right side. The sliding Ibrahim got a foot on the ball, redirecting it into the goal past junior goalkeeper
Qasim El-Ashkar (Salem, Mass.) to give Skidmore College an early 1-0 lead.
After a stagnant start for the Beacon offense, freshman midfielder
Ryan Lima (Lynn, Mass.) started the aggressive offensive zone push with a shot inside the box that went high and wide of the goal. Sophomore midfielder
Annilson DePina Fernandes (Dorchester, Mass.) followed Lima's shot up with another quality chance in the box which was blocked by the Thoroughbred defense.
UMass Boston nearly turned the momentum into a game-tying goal in the 21
st minute when Lima hit junior forward
Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) in front of the net whose quick touch put the ball in the back of the goal mouth. The score was called back as DeAlmeida was ruled to be offsides by the far side linesman.
A short time later, Skidmore College added to their lead in the 25
th minute when a cross pass from senior midfielder Ethan Kilmnick found the head of Ibrahim who elevated over El-Ashkar and the Beacon defense to net his second goal of the game, making it 2-0. The Thoroughbreds would add a third goal in the 44
th minute after a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Ethan Slager bounced off sophomore defender Max Heberlein's head, a Beacon defender, and the goal post to extend the Skidmore College advantage to three at halftime.
Sophomore defender
Diego Gisholt (Newton, Mass.) would get the Beacons on the scoreboard in the second half after UMass Boston was awarded a penalty kick in the 70
th minute following a foul in the box. The goal was Gisholt's first of the season and second of his career. The Newton native was responsible for all three of the Beacons second half chances, nearly tacking on another goal in the 86
