BOSTON, Mass. – An Alexie Root goal in the 73
rd minute lifted Eastern Connecticut State University to a 1-0 Little East Conference win over UMass Boston Saturday afternoon at Monan Soccer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Root's game-winning goal when she laid a perfectly placed shot to the far post after getting between the Beacons backline. Ashlyn Rogers and Madison Palmer set-up the play as they connected passes from across field to set-up the crucial score for the Warriors.
Saturday's match was truly a tale of two halves, with the Beacons offense completely overwhelming the Warriors through the first 45 minutes. Alaina Keely had one of the best chances for he Beacons in the opening half, but was denied by ECSU goalkeeper Emily Wallace.
After the break, the Warriors began to hit their stride and stretched the field, which created opening in the Beacons defensive third. ECSU led in shots in the second 10-6, which included the game-winner.
UMass did have their chances to take a second half lead or score the equalizer in the later stages as they combined for eight second half corner kicks.
Wallace picked-up the shutout win after making nine saves.
Maria Spylios finished the contest with six stops.
