Brandeis Downs Volleyball In Straight Sets

Ally Dean finished with 10 digs in the 3-0 loss to the Judges




BOSTON, Mass. – With 14 kills from Anna Ertischek Brandeis University earned a 3-0 win over volleyball Tuesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ertischek dominated all night for the Judges as she hit an impressive .522. Brandeis maintained a slim lead for nearly the entire first set. The Beacons did manage to tie their opponents on multiple occasions, but were unable to gain some much needed breathing room. The Judges took the opening frame with a 25-22 decision. They then took a 2-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the second, before sealing the match with a 25-14 win in the third.

As a team, the Judges hit a combined .277 in the win, with Lara Verstovsek and Arianna Jackson combined for 13 kills respectively. Ines Grom-Mansenecal quarterbacked the offense with her 26 assists, while a trio of Brandeis players finished with 10 or more digs to lead the defensive effort.

Taryn Broughal posted a team-best nine kills and .333 hitting percentage. She also had the Beacons only block solo and two of the team's four block assists. Setters Melina Sullivan and Amelia Devlin finished with 12 and 15 assists respectively. Ally Dean was solid in the back row with her 10 digs to go along with 13 service receptions.

  • All-time the Beacons are now 9-13 against Brandeis, with Thursday's loss ending UMB's eight match win-streak
  • Thursday's win was the first for the Judges in Clark Gymnasium since October 28, 1992
