HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring opportunities were far and few for both teams in the early morning matchup. Junior forward
Sarah Kelley and freshman midfielder
Andrea Rivera recorded the first shots of the match in the 19
th minute. But in the 26
th minute, senior forward
Kaylee Haynes found herself with a quality scoring opportunity in front of the net with only Fine to beat but was ruled offside by the near-side referee, nullifying the scoring chance.
Rivera would generate another quality shot opportunity in the 33
rd minute, but the ball was pushed out of the goal mouth by Fine. With the first half winding down, freshman midfielder
McKenna Hallinan knocked a header on goal near the top of the crossbar. Fine was able to leap up and make the save, falling close to the goal line on her descent.
Caltech's leading scorer sophomore forward Jennifer Solgaard gave the Beavers a handful of scoring opportunities in the middle of the second half. The first came in the 62
nd minute when Solgaard fired on net forcing Spylios to dive to her left and knock the ball away. A similar situation took place in the 64
th minute, with Spylios again swallowing up a shot attempt from Solgaard.
Graduate forward
Dani Anderson generated the best chance for the Beacons in the second half, rifling a shot in the 81
st minute that went wide left of the goal mouth, ending the scoring chances for both teams as the Beacons earned their second tie of the season.
