Softball Swept by Eastern Connecticut on Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass Boston softball team dropped a pair of Little East Conference (LEC) contests to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at the UMB Softball Field.

THE BASICS

Eastern Connecticut 6, UMass Boston 2
Eastern Connecticut 9, UMass Boston 0

Eastern Connecticut (28-7, 11-1 LEC)
UMass Boston (19-15, 6-8 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Beacons trailed 5-0 after the Warriors scored three runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth. They got two of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth frame, as senior Sarah Harlinski (Sturbridge, Mass.) and senior Britney Perkett (Pittsfield, Mass.) lead off with a pair of bunt singles before scoring on junior Sydney Sanden's (Riverton, Conn.) two-out double down the left field line.

Alexis Michon then struck out freshman Amauri English (North Providence, R.I.) to end the sixth, and fanned two of the three UMass Boston batters that stepped to the plate in the seventh to secure the win for Eastern Connecticut. She fanned 14 batters while allowing two runs on three hits over seven innings.

Senior Hayley Catania (Amesbury, Mass.) took the loss in the circle for the Beacons in game-one, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits in six innings.

The Beacons were unable to get anything going in game-two, as Morgan Bolduk was just one walk away from throwing a perfect game, striking out 10 batters in the complete-game win. The big blow came off the bat of Sarah Remillard, who hit a three-run blast in the sixth.

Sophomore Brianna Melchionda (Marshfield, Mass.) was touched up for seven runs in her 5.2 innings of work, six of which plated in the top of the sixth.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Beacons will next travel to Castleton University Tuesday for a LEC doubleheader. Game-one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
