HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one was a back-and-forth affair with the Beacons plating the first run of the day in the top of the first. Wellesley countered with a lone run in the bottom of the second. Aggressive base running in the third inning propelled the Beacons to a pair of runs
Brianna Melchionda and
Sarah Harlinski each stealing home.
Wellesley would score their final run of the day in the fourth on an RBI single, as Melchionda continued her dominance in the circle. In seven innings of work, she allowed the two-runs on four hits, while striking out eight for the second time in the last week.
The nightcap was all UMass Boston from the top of the first inning as they unloaded nine runs in the top half of the opening frame.
Sydney Sanden and
Jordan Toomey got the game off to a great start as they both knocked-in a pair of runs. Sanden would come back up for a second time in the first, ripped two-run double to cap-off the huge inning.
Toomey plated the Beacons final run of the afternoon on an RBI single in the top of the second.
Wellesley's two runs came in the fourth and fifth innings, but any chance of a comeback was denied by
Emily Doble and the Beacons defense.
Doble had one strikeout in her five innings of work, while not allowing a walk to improve to 2-1 on the season.
