BOSTON, Mass. – In their first home games of the 2022 season, softball continued their winning ways in the opener taking an 8-3 win, but saw their than six-game win-stream come to an end in the nightcap as they were handed a 7-0 loss by Bridgewater State University, Friday afternoon at UMB Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – UMB 8, BSU 3
The opener saw the Beacons put-up a season-high 14 hits as they dominated their intra-state rivals from the beginning. UMB took immediate control of the contest, as they scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hailey Tilberry helped fuel the offensive surge with a two-run triple which made it a 4-0 ball game at the time.
The Beacons made it a 7-1 affair in the fourth, before sealing the win the in the fifth on a
Brianna Melchionda RBI single. Bridgewater managed to produce their only runs in the third and seventh innings.
In the circle Melchionda was impressive allowing the three runs, one earned, on nine hits. She also struck out a season-best eight batters. With the bat the, sophomore went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Sydney Sanden finished 3-for-4, with a triple, with an RBI and a run scored. Tilberry finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to help fuel the Beacons onslaught.
GAME 2 – UMB 0, BSU 7
The second game of the day saw the Bears put-up three runs in the second and fifth, and one in the seventh as they earned their second shutout of the season.
Kelley Reichert stole the show in the nightcap as she threw a no-hitter and was one error away from a perfect game to claim her fourth win of the season. The senior struck out seven hitters in her near perfect performance.
For the Beacons
Emily Doble went all seven innings and had four strikeouts, while not surrendering a walk. Of the seven runs scored, only two were earned.
BY THE NUMBERS
- All-time the Beacons are now 12-9 against Bridgewater State
- UMB's six-game win-streak was the longest since the 2019 season, when they won six-straight from April 11-19
- In the opener, five Beacons recorded two or more hits, with only three striking out in the win
