Game 2: UMass Boston 13, NVU-Lyndon 2

UMass Boston (4-0), NVU-Lyndon (2-9)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Lyndon struck first in the opener as Jordan Crane drove in Parker Perron with a single to center in the top of the third inning. That lead would prove to be short lived as UMass Boston plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.
Â
Senior
Thomas Cue (Shrewsbury, Mass.) got the scoring going for the Beacons when he drove in graduate
Steve Brookwell (Hightstown, N.J.) and freshman
Jake Woltman (Encinitas, Calif.) with a triple to straight away center field, and then went home on senior
Drew Metzdorf's (Burlington, Mass.) double to left.
Â
UMass Boston led 4-1 heading to the bottom of the sixth, where they erupted for 11 runs to put any hopes of a comeback by the Hornets out of reach. Highlights of that frame included a solo blast to left off the bat of junior
Ethan Errera (Newington, Conn.) and a two-RBI double for Sophomore
Kevin Carrera (Sandwich, Mass.) that capped the scoring for the Beacons.
Â
Freshman
Keenan Metrick (Malvern, Pa.) didn't factor in the decision after a solid start for UMass Boston, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Classmate Â
Cole Porter (River Vale, N.J.) was credited with the win after not allowing a hit and fanning two batters in his 2.1 innings of relief. Carlos Rodriguez took the loss after giving up four runs on five hits with 5Ks in 3.2 innings of work.
The second game played out in similar fashion, as Skyler Bushey's two-run homer in the top of the first gave NVU-Lyndon an early 2-0 lead. Those proved to be the Hornets' only runs of the nightcap.
Â
That lead lasted until the bottom of the second, where senior
Craig Corliss (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior
Aidan Blake (Lakeville, Mass.) both scored on an error that allowed senior
Nick Palma (Peabody, Mass.) to reach base. Palma then scored on Errera's ground out to short, and senior
Henry Score (New York, N.Y.) later crossed the plate on Brookwell's single to right, giving the Beacons a 4-2 lead.
Â
The Beacons tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, which started with a solo homer off the bat of junior Gianni Zarrilli (South Glastonbury, Conn.), tacked on two more in the fifth on Errera's double to the gap in left, and then pushed across four more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 13-2 final.
Â
Sophomore
Jackson Snider (Durham, N.C.) got the win on the hill for UMass Boston after allowing two runs on three hits over his four innings of work in the seven inning game. Jacob Wechselblatt was tagged with the loss for NVU-Lyndon after giving up nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits and three walks over five innings. He also had 8Ks in the contest.
