WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward
Cailey Kozich scored the game-winning goal just over a minute into overtime on the road against Worcester State University on Friday night to give UMass Boston Women's Ice Hockey a 3-2 victory in the first ever matchup between both programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The UMass Boston offense would come out aggressive in their first ever matchup against Worcester State, firing 17 shots on senior goalie Amber Lee in net. But Lee would stop all of the Beacons attempts while freshman goalie
Leah Bosch made five saves and the Beacon penalty kill would keep the Lancers off the scoreboard in the opening 20 minutes to keep the game scoreless after one period.
Going on the power play midway through the second period, the Beacons would get on the scoreboard as senior forward
Hannah MacDougall scored her second goal of the season on passes from sophomore forward
Allie Reifler and sophomore defender
Gabby Shontz to put UMass Boston ahead 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Hansen would receive passes from sophomore forward
Liz Kramp and freshman defender
Emma Webster to extend the Beacon lead to two goals heading into the final period of play.
Worcester State would find its way back into the game, scoring their first goal just 35 seconds into the third period when junior forward Ellen Cook scored on Bosch with assists from freshman defender Lea Gasper and senior forward Katie Puumala to cut the UMass Boston lead down to one.
After a penalty to Kramp with 1:42 remaining in regulation, the Lancers would knot the game up and force overtime with a six-on-four advantage when senior forward Cassidhe Wozniak netted the equalizer goal with 38 seconds left in the game to force overtime after graduate defender Kylian Kelly and graduate forward Clare Conway found Wozniak for the score.
Just over a minute into the overtime frame, Kozich would net the game-winning goal as get help from Shontz and junior forward
Katie Wilbert to give UMass Boston the 3-2 victory on the road.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Leah Bosch moved to 3-0-0 on the season, stopping 24 of 26 shot attempts by Worcester State
- Amber Lee made 32 saves, including 17 in the first period, for the Lancers out of the 35 shot attempts by UMass Boston
- For the second consecutive game, the Beacons scored a power play goal (1-for-4 on the evening) after starting 0-for-26 this season on the advantage

The Beacons kick off a two-game home stretch before going into the winter break, starting off with Connecticut College on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM inside the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink. The two teams faced off last season with the Camels coming out on top, 3-2, at home.
