DANBURY, Conn.  – A turnaround season for UMass Boston Women's Soccer after a 1-7-2 start, saw them finish the regular season 8-8-2, and then came to a close in the Little East Conference Semifinals against two-seeded WestConn on Thursday afternoon. UMass Boston (9-9-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman midfielder Callia Eaton looked to give the Beacons an early lead, recording the first shot on goal for either team in the 13th minute, but was turned away by senior goalkeeper Kristen Roessler in net for the Wolves.

WestConn would begin their offensive attack, rattling off the next six shots, including two on net at senior goalkeeper Maria Spylios who kept the match scoreless. Before UMass Boston could record another shot on goal, the Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minutes on a goal from senior forward Myah Croze from sophomore forward Suzana Imetovski, the leading goal scorer for WestConn during the regular season.

A quick flurry of offensive opportunities in the 44th minute with three shots on Roessler by three different UMass Boston players would not yield the game-tying goal and just a few moments later Imetovski scored her 12th goal of the season to give the Wolves a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

WestConn would double their lead in the second half with a goal from junior midfielder Hannah Daly in the 55th minute which was assisted by Croze and the second goal of the match by Croze in the 64th minute which was assisted by freshman midfielder Miranda Martincic to earn the 4-0 victory and advance to the Little East Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at top-seeded University of Southern Maine.
