Men's Ice Hockey Blanked on the Road Against Colby College, 3-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – Graduate goalie Liam Murray made 25 saves for UMass Boston Men's Ice Hockey as the Beacons were shutout for the second consecutive game Saturday afternoon against Colby College, 3-0.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 0, Colby College 3

UMass Boston (2-7-0)

Colby College (3-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior forward Michael McEachern netted the first goal of the day, just under eight minutes into the contest on a pair of passes from junior defenseman Griffin Grise and freshman forward James Tepper to put the Mules ahead 1-0 in the early going. The Beacons would only be able to record three shots on net against junior goalie Andy Beran through 20 minutes.

A stalemate of a second period would see Murray and Beran go toe-to-toe with one another as the goalies would combine for 27 total saves with the Beacon offensive aggressively firing 17 shots on goal against Beran while Murray would turn away 10 shots taken by Colby College.

The Mules would add to their lead late in the third period when sophomore Mac O'Brien scored on an assist from sophomore forward Nick Stapleton with 5:44 to go in the final frame. Less than a minute later, sophomore forward Jack MacDonald and senior forward Carter Breitenfeldt teamed up to assist on the third and final Colby goal scored by junior defender Jack Sullivan on the power play to down the Beacons, 3-0.
