HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman forward Kerfalla Toure got the scoring started for the Soaring Eagles in the first period on a pass from sophomore Cole Tucker that squirted by senior goalie
Sam Best in net for UMass Boston.
Elmira would extend their lead in the second period on a turnover by the Beacons in the defensive zone that was stolen away by Toure who put it into the right side of the goal mouth, making it 2-0 with 11 minutes remaining in the period. About six minutes later, Googins would net his first goal of the season on the power play after freshman Grady Friedman found him on the left side of the ice. The junior fired into traffic as the puck found its way past freshman goalie Kyle Curtin, cutting the UMass Boston deficit to one, 2-1.
Nearing the end of the second, the Soaring Eagles would regain their two-goal edge off an offensive zone face-off which junior defensemen Daniel Dimon and Jordan Gonzalez rattled over to senior Jake Russo who scored the third goal of the evening for Elmira.
Soaring Eagles' lead scorer junior forward Janis Vizbelis would tally the fourth and final goal for Elmira on a pass from senior forward Graham Denomme, as the Beacons fell 4-1 at home.
