Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated in LEC Play After Road Win Against Anchormen

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Freshman midfielder Ryan Lima scored his third goal of the season in the second half against Rhode Island College as UMass Boston Men's Soccer stayed undefeated in Little East Conference play with a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon on the road.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 1, Rhode Island College 0

UMass Boston (7-3-2, 4-0-0 LEC)

Rhode Island College (2-5-3, 1-2-2 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a relatively even matched first half for both teams as both sides recorded two shots on goal with Lima being the first of the two shots in the fourth minute of play but getting denied by junior goalkeeper Jake Reed. The only other Beacon shot on goal came from senior midfielder Cristian Suvak in the 45th minute.

After a scoring opportunity by freshman forward Nick Braganca in the 53rd minute, Lima would net his goal just five minutes later in the 58th minute of play. Snagging a pass from sophomore midfielder Annilson DePina who was around the center of the pitch. Streaking behind the defense, Lima was one-on-one against Reed in net, forced the junior goalkeeper into the splits, and slipped the ball past his left side to make it 1-0.

That would be all the scoring UMass Boston would need as the Anchormen fired four shots on junior goalkeeper Qasim El-Ashkar in net over the final 32 minutes of the match, all of which would be turned away by El-Ashkar to preserve the one goal victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
