HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman forward Grady Friedman notched his first collegiate goal 14:36 into the first period to give the Beacons their first lead of the 2022-23 season after fellow freshman forward Jude Kurtas fired a shot on senior goalie Daniel Davidson and the puck redirected to Friedman's stick.

The Corsairs would respond in the waning seconds of the first period when senior goalie Sam Best tried to push the puck out of harms way in the defensive zone, but freshman defenseman Alex Newton was right there in open space and fired into the top shelf past Best to knot the score at one heading into the intermission.

Junior forward Michael Mania gave UMass Dartmouth their first lead of the contest in the second period when senior defenseman Jake Maynard pushed a pass ahead to freshman forward Tyler Stewart in the offensive zone. Stewart squeezed a pass through two Beacon defenders onto Mania's stick who beat Best one-on-one to put the Corsairs in front 2-1.

Freshman forward Jazz Krivtsov scored his first collegiate goal to tie the game up at two all off a face-off in the defensive zone. In transition the other way, two quick shots from junior forward Owen Bourdow and freshman forward Mike Manzo led to traffic in front before the puck bounced onto Krivtsov's stick and he placed it behind Davidson.

Netting the difference maker in the game was Zdanowicz with just under 10 minutes left in regulation. After an initial shot on goal, the puck caromed to freshman forward Kevin Johnston behind the net who found Zdanowicz near the goal mouth who flicked a shot over Best, making it 3-2 Corsairs.

Scoring his second goal of the game, Mania would give UMass Dartmouth a two-goal lead on the power play goal with 40 seconds left as the Corsairs downed the Beacons, 4-2.
