Men's Ice Hockey Stifled By Curry College at Home

BOSTON, Mass. – Three first period goals from three different scorers on Curry College would be enough to down UMass Boston Men's Ice Hockey at home on Saturday afternoon, 5-1, in the final non-conference match before the Beacons kick off New England Hockey Conference play next weekend.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 1, Curry College 5

UMass Boston (0-2-0)

Curry College (1-0-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Sophomore forward Kevin Pitts got the scoring started for Curry just over six minutes into the game when a pass from senior Nick Favaro along the boards found Pitts in front of senior goalie Sam Best who was unable to stop the wrist shot that went into the top left side of the net.

Senior forward Timmy Kent, who led the Colonels in goals last season, netted his first goal of the season after junior Tao Ishizuka on the left side of the ice found Kent in between two Beacon defenders with 8:45 remaining in the first period to put Curry ahead 2-0.

15 seconds later Kent would record an assist on the third Colonels goal as freshman forward Gage Dill netted the third and final goal of the first for Curry College.

Sophomore defender Pat Keegan looked to get the Beacons back into the game when senior forward Andy Walker passed it back to the sophomore at the blue line and he fired a wrist shot past graduate goalie Reid Cooper to cut the deficit down to 3-1.
The Colonels would regain their three-goal lead with 4:47 left in the second period as freshman defenseman Matt Connor located sophomore forward Eelis Laaksonen behind the Beacon defense and fired the puck past Best.

Curry College would add a goal from graduate forward Tarek Paranica on the empty net with just over a minute left as the Beacons fell to 0-2-0 to start their season.
