Hot 3-Point Shooting Leads Women's Basketball Past Panthers

Freshman transfer Paige Ollivierre posted 18 points in her Beacons debut



BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston women's basketball knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers, to earn a 76-62 Little East Conference victory over Plymouth State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Senior Meg Dixon (Hanover, Mass.) knocked down five of the Beacons 3-pointers and paced UMass Boston with 23 points overall. She went 8-16 from the field, 5-11 from deep and chipped in six rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists. 
 
Freshman transfer Paige Ollivierre (Newton, Mass.) showed up in a huge way in her Beacons debut. The freshman poured in 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench and went 4-8 from distance. 
 
Sophomore Jasharee Greene (Boston, Mass.) added 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds of her own, while Sunny Green (Nauset, Mass.) was the final Beacon in double-figures with 10 points. 
 
Freshman Cathryn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mass.) filled up the stat sheet. She finished with six points, a career-high 10 assists and six rebounds. 
 
Plymouth State's Jalen Cook led all scorers with 24 points (10-19 shooting). Sophomore Sabrina Vlahovic collected a career-high 17 rebounds and added on 11 points. Alessia Salzillo was the final Panther to finish in double-figures, as the junior chipped in 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. 
 
The Panthers got off to a red-hot start and led 9-2 after just two minutes and two seconds. UMass Boston got back into the game thanks to their shooting from distance. Dixon knocked down a pair of threes to cut the deficit to three and Ollivierre's first three as a Beacon gave UMass Boston the lead (15-14). The Beacons took a 17-16 advantage into the second quarter thanks to a late Sullivan put-back. 
 
After Plymouth State managed to grab a three-point lead late in the second quarter, UMass Boston used a 12-3 run to take a 39-33 lead into halftime. Ollivierre tied the game with a 3-pointer and Greene gave the Beacons the lead for good with a free throw. Dixon followed by canning a 3-pointer of her own and Keriann Farina (Arlington, Mass.) and Sullivan added baskets of their own to close out the half. 
 
UMass Boston put the game away in the third quarter. The Beacons doubled up the Panthers 18-9 to extend their lead to 57-42 after 30 minutes of play. UMass Boston went 8-15 from the field in the quarter and limited Plymouth to just 3-11 shooting. 
 
With the Beacons leading 46-40 with 3:19 to go in the third, UMass Boston went on an 11-1 run with Dixon and Greene combining for the final 11 points. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • UMass Boston finished the game shooting a season-high 50.9 percent (29-57) from the field and finished shooting 41.4 percent (12-29) from distance. 
  • Dixon has now scored 23 or more points five times this season. She has also hit four or more 3-pointers five times. 
  • The Beacons earned a 20-6 edge in bench points and registered assists on 24 of their 29 made field goals. 
  • Ollivierre joins the Beacons after spending the past 1.5 seasons at Division II Barry University. She recorded six points in four games at Barry. 
  • With the win, UMass Boston has now won eight-straight games over the Panthers.

UMass Boston will travel to in-state rivals UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
