Sophomore Vienna Monestime recorded a career-high 17 points in the loss

DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Despite a career-high 17 points from sophomore Vienna Monestime (Framingham, Mass.), UMass Boston women's basketball couldn't keep up with hosts UMass Dartmouth, in an 87-51 Little East Conference setback.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

UMass Dartmouth jumped all over the shorthanded Beacons from the opening tip and never let the Beacons back into the game.Ā

Monestime put together a career day by going 4-8 from the field, 3-4 from distance and 6-8 from the free throw line. She also chipped in four rebounds, two blocks and one steal.Ā

Freshman Paige Ollivierre (Newton, Mass.) reached double-figures for the second time in her collegiate career with 10 points in a career-high 31 minutes. Kerianna Farina (Arlington, Mass.) tacked on nine points and a team-high four assists, while Meg Dixon (Hanover, Mass.) tacked on seven points and a team-best six rebounds.Ā

UMass Dartmouth's Jordan Moretti led all players with 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. The Corsairs senior guard went 9-12 from the field, hit three of her five 3-pointers and knocked down her lone free throw attempt.Ā

Meagan Donovan (17 points) and Shaelyn Carreiro (12 points) both joined Moretti in double-figures.Ā

UMass Dartmouth jumped out to a 7-0 lead just 3:41 into the contest and never let the Beacons get any closer than four points the rest of the way.Ā

The hosts extended their advantage to 22-10 after one, 45-29 at halftime and used a huge third quarter to make it 70-34 after three.Ā

UMass Boston tied the hosts 17-17 in the fourth quarter behind eight points from Ollivierre.Ā

  • UMass Boston shot 32.1 percent (17-53) from the field, 7-20 (35 percent) from distance and 62.5 percent (10-16) from the free throw line.Ā 
  • The Beacons only had seven players play 10 or more minutes in the contest. Sophomore Jasharee Greene (Boston, Mass.) missed her first collegiate game, while freshman Cathryn Sullivan (Plymouth, Mas.) started but only played two minutes.Ā 
  • Monestime has now recorded double-digit points in three of her eight collegiate contest and two of the past four games.Ā 
  • The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for UMass Boston over the Corsairs. The Beacons have won five of the last seven meetings between the two sides.Ā 
  • UMass Boston committed a season-high 30 turnovers in the loss.Ā Ā

The Beacons will have a chance to avenge the loss in two days, when they host UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Fans will be allowed in attendance. To attend the game, fans must show proof of vaccination (must have received one dose of a one-dose series or two doses in a two-dose series) and be masked at all times.Ā
