HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Rachael Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) and Hannah MacDougall (South Darmouth, Mass.) each scored for the Beacons who moved back into third-place in the NEHC with the win.

Burum paced the Beacons with a team-high two points in the win. Liz Kramp (Farmington Hills, Mich.), Melina Maggio (Mount Prospect, Ill.) and Jane Ann Drill (Madison, Wisc.) each added an assist in the win.

Kennedy saved her best for the last in the win. She made 10 saves in the first period, stopped all seven shots she faced in the second and saved all 18 Herons shots in the third.

Laura Hill scored the lone goal for the hosts who saw their four-game home unbeaten streak (3-0-1) come to an end. Emily Martino and Julianna Gong each recorded an assist in the loss.

Sophomore Annie Hauser allowed two goals on 28 shots to fall to 2-3 on the season.

William Smith got off to a strong start when Hill opened the scoring just 3:56 into the contest.

UMass Boston went into the first intermission tied 1-1 thanks to a goal late in the period. MacDougall scored her fourth goal of the year off feeds from Burum and Kramp.

Burum gave the Beacons the lead for good 4:56 into the second. Burum won an offensive zone face-off back to Maggio who fed Drill at the far point. Hauser stopped Drill's initial shot, but Burum pounced on the rebound and slipped it past the Herons goalie for a 2-1 lead.

Kennedy and the Beacons defense would take over from there. UMass Boston committed just two penalties over the final 35 minutes and Kennedy stopped all five Herons looks on the power-play.
