HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Dixon finished 11-20 from the field, 4-10 from distance and hit all nine of her free throws to break the previous program record of 33 points. The senior also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and added three assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes and 51 seconds of action.Â
Â
Sophomore
Jasharee Greene (Boston, Mass.) was the only other Beacon in double-figures. Greene finished with 17 points on 5-13 shooting and added 12 rebounds (nine offensive) and two steals.Â
Â
Kerianna Farina (Arlington, Mass.) and
Vienna Monestime (Framingham, Mass.) each chipped in eight points apiece. Farina paced the Beacons with four assists in the victory.Â
Â
Castleton junior Elise Magro paced the visitors with 18 points on 8-21 shooting. Graduate student guard Kelly Vuz tacked on 16 points and Delaney Whitehead and Ryleigh Coloutti each finished with eight points.Â
Â
UMass Boston put together one of their best team performances of the season as they led from start-to-finish and never let the Spartans get back into the game.Â
Â
The Beacons used a 10-3 run over the final 4:29 of the first quarter to open up a 20-10 advantage after 10 minutes. Dixon scored the first seven points during the flurry, with Greene (two) and Farina (one) each adding free throws to cap off the run.Â
Â
UMass Boston carried their momentum into the second quarter. After Castleton opened the quarter with a Coloutti layup, UMass Boston scored the next 11 points to open up a 31-12 advantage with 6:06 to play in the half. Dixon and Monestime combined for nine of the Beacons 11 points during the flurry and Farina added a fastbreak layup.Â
Â
Castleton cut the deficit to 13 late in the half, but Dixon added a layup with just over a minute to go to cap off a 24-point, 10-rebound first half.Â
Â
The second half would be more of the same, as any time Castleton would cut into the deficit UMass Boston would answer with a run of their own. The Beacons put the game away early in the fourth, when they used a 7-0 spurt to grab a 66-45 lead.Â
Â
Dixon set the program record for points in a single-game with 5:19 to go when she knocked won a pair of free throws for her record-setting 34
th and 35
th points of the evening.Â
