HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second straight match, the Beacons had to rally from an early deficit to earn the one-goal victory. Coast Guard got on the scoreboard in the 29
th minute with Reilly Pogoloff netting her first goal of the season.
The Beacons one-two punch of
Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.) and
Allie Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) evened the score at 1-1 with 14 seconds remaining before the halftime break. Crawford found her teammate on a perfectly placed long ball just outside of the goal box. Murphy pushed the ball to the near post to register her third tally in as many games.
In the second half, UMass Boston controlled a majority of the momentum, as they outshot the Bears 7-6. The Beacons would capitalize on another great passing play to take their first and only lead of the afternoon.
Nilou Asdigha (Shrewsbury, Mass.), brought the ball up the middle of the field, where she found Murphy standing all alone at the top of the goal box. The Worcester native crossed the ball, which deflected off of a Bears defender. The ball managed slip under the goalkeeper, where it found McGettrick on the far post. A Coast Guard defender tried to clear the ball, but was unable to get it past the crashing McGettrick who powered it into the back of the net.
UMB nearly made it a two-goal affair as Crawford hit a one-time from 30-yards out, but was stopped by Hope Drake-Duval, who made six stops in the loss.
Maria Spylios (Leominster, Mass.) made five stops in the win, to improve to 2-0 on the year.
