Women's Tennis Drops Conference Match at Bridgewater State

Beacons fall to the Bears by the final of 6-3

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State handed women's tennis their second Little East Conference loss of the season as the Bears downed the Beacons by the final score of 6-3 Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

To start the afternoon, Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and Meagan Carney (Arlington, Mass.) recorded the lone victory for the Beacons in doubles play. Trailing 2-1 heading into singles competition, the host Bears claimed the victory by winning the fifth, third, and sixth flights.

UMass Boston notched their second point of the contest with Carney grabbing a 6-0, 7-5 win at first flight.

Bridgewater's final win of the contest came in the form of a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the second flight. Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) earned a hard fought win at fourth flight with a 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 decision.

THE BASICS
  • With Wednesday's win, Vassiliadis is now 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference action
  • Carney is also undefeated in singles play with a perfect 4-0 mark, 3-0 against LEC competition
  • In doubles play, Carney and Chan currently have a 4-0 record overall, 3-0 in conference

The Beacons will travel to Roger Williams University tomorrow for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
