Men's Soccer's Nilton de Andrade Attends U.S. Fustal National Team Camp

De Andrade is competing for a spot to play in next month's 2021 Fifa Futsal World Cup

BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston men's soccer Nilton de Andrade (Fogo, Cape Verde) has been keeping extremely busy during his extended COVID offseason. 

The men's soccer senior was invited to the U.S. National Team Futsal Preparation Camp in Rome, Georgia earlier this month. De Andrade was one of 20 players invited to the final camp, which ran from August 4-9. 
 
Head coach Dusan Jakica will bring 16 players to next month's 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania. The U.S. team is in Group F and will take on Argentina, Iran and Serbia when the tournament begins on September 12. 
 
De Andrade also has been playing soccer with Brockton FC United. He helped the team finish third in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) Division I National Championship during the 2020-21 season, as he scored a goal in the team's third-place victory over Capital City SC. He also scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final six minutes of regulation, to lead Brockton United FC past NY Contour United 2-1 in the UPSL East Region Championship Game. 
 
He returned to the team this summer and helped Brockton FC reach the Patriot Division Finals. 
 
During his most recent season with UMass Boston in 2019, de Andrade put together a career season to earn United Soccer Coaches' (USC) All-American honors. The attacking midfielder led the Beacons with 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points. He led all of Division III with 6.37 shots per game and ranked 12th with his 2.74 shots on goal per contest.
