DARTMOUTH, Mass. (Oct. 28, 2026) –
Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, Brazil) contributed to all four goals and the UMass Boston Beacons men's soccer team (8-5-1, 5-2-1) rolled to a 4-0 victory over the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs (7-7-3, 3-3-2) on Wednesday at Cressy Field in Dartmouth.
The victory coupled with the scoreless draw between Eastern Connecticut State and Rhode Island College has given the Beacons the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in next week's Little East Conference Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
UMass Dartmouth had a chance in the early stages, but Beacons' goalie
JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) denied the shot to keep things scoreless for the time being.
John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) got UMass Boston on the board in the eighth minute with a feed from Lima and the latter scored a goal of his own just 0:22 later for a quick 2-0 advantage. The Beacons continued to mount the pressure offensively and Lima assisted on a
Raphael Alves (Framingham, Mass.) goal in the final minute of the first half that made it a 3-0 game headed into the locker room.
A strong defensive effort from the Beacons limited the Corsairs to just four shots over the opening 45 minutes of action.
Alves nearly struck again in the 47
th minute as his shot rang off the crossbar and shortly after, Lima had a chance saved by UMass Dartmouth goalie Edward Corliss. In the 63
rd minute,
Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) saw his attempt hit the crossbar and Lima followed up with his second goal of the day for a 4-0 lead. Devine added two saves for the Beacons over the final 25 plus minutes to preserve the clean sheet.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Head coach
Jake Beverlin's team held a decisive 18-8 edge in shots led by four from Lima and three from Arruda.
Lima's brace was the second of his career after he previously scored two against Occidental College on Sept. 1, 2025. The two assists also marked a new career-high.
Devine recorded four saves for his second shutout of the year, while Corliss tallied seven saves for UMass Dartmouth.
The Beacons have now won 12 straight meetings against the Corsairs dating back to Sept. 27, 2014.
UP NEXT:
UMass Boston will host an LEC semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 4 versus an opponent that will be announced following Saturday's quarterfinal results. Start time of the semifinal is yet to be determined.
