Lacrosse Uses Fourth-Quarter Rally To Earn First-Ever Win Over Warriors

Trevor Koppy posted a career-high 23 saves in the victory

BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston lacrosse outscored host Eastern Connecticut State University 3-0 in the fourth quarter, to earn a comeback 10-8 victory to stay perfect to start the 2021 season.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 10, Eastern Connecticut State University 8
(UMass Boston 3-0, Little East Conference 3-0)
(Eastern Connecticut State University 4-5, Little East Conference 1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Darragh Fahey (Walpole, Mass.), Donovan Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) and Conor Lenfest (Waltham, Mass.) each scored in the fourth quarter to lead the Beacons to their first win over the Warriors in 27 all-time meetings.

Sophomore goalie Trevor Koppy (Attleboro, Mass.) was the hero for the Beacons on the day. He made a career-high 23 saves in the victory, including stopping all six shots he faced in the final stanza. He also collected a team-high five ground balls and forced one turnover.

Sophomore defenseman Nick Matuszak (Ann Arbor, Mich.) caused a game-high four turnovers and was one of four Beacons with four or more ground balls.

Offensively, Prozinski led the charge for the Beacons. The fifth-year transfer recorded a season-high four goals, including the game-winning tally with 6:01 to play.

Lenfest was the only other Beacon with multiple goals, as he finished with a pair of tallies. Reigning Little East Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Gavin Admirand (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded three assists, including setting up the Beacons' ninth and tenth goals of the afternoon.

Jack Riley (Wrentham, Mass.) and Luke Murphy (Watertown, Mass.) each dished out two assists, while Cam Ford (Worcester, Mass.), Zach Mann (South Hadley, Mass.), Jack Dobrzynski (West Greenwich, R.I.) and Fahey each scored one goal.

Eastern Connecticut State goalie Jack Farrell posted 26 saves in the contest for the hosts. The Warriors were led offensively by Kyle Cardoza (one goal and three assist) and Tyler Stein (three goals).

Tuesday's game was close from the start, with the Warriors holding a slight advantage for most of the first 30 minutes.

Mann tied the game at one for the Beacons at 6:57 of the first quarter, off of a feed from Murphy.

Eastern Connecticut State would score two goals in the next two minutes, only for the Beacons to answer back with two goals of their own before the end of the stanza.

Lenfest cut the deficit to 3-2 and Prozinski scored his first goal of the day with just 38 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The Warriors held the Beacons scoreless in the second quarter, with Stein scoring a pair of goals to give the hosts a 5-3 lead after 30 minutes.

Eastern Connecticut State extended their lead to a game-high three goals 58 seconds into the third quarter.

UMass Boston responded in a huge way with four-straight goals in just 65 seconds.

Prozinski ended the Beacons 21-minute scoring drought with 5:57 left in the third. Ford cut the deficit to 6-5 29 seconds later. Dobryznski won the ensuing face-off, picked up the ground ball and scored to tie the game at 5:16. After another face-off win, Prozinski gave the Beacons their first lead of the day (7-6) with 4:52 left in the quarter.

Eastern answered right back though, as Zacharie Appolon tied the game with 2:23 left in the third and gave the hosts an 8-7 lead a minute later.

Facing their toughest test in almost two years, UMass Boston put together their most complete quarter of the season in the fourth.

After a pair of Koppy saves kept the deficit at one, Fahey scored an unassisted goal with 9:32 remaining to tie the game at 8-8.

Koppy came up with three more saves and Matuszak forced a turnover to get the Beacons the ball back. Admirand found Prozinski-who's low shout bounced past Farrell for a 9-8 lead with 6:01 left.

Eastern got two more possessions, but Chris Palin (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Koppy each caused turnovers to give the Beacons a chance to extend their lead. This time it was Admirand feeding Lenfest, who triple pumped the goalie in tight, before finding the back of the cage.

The Beacons would hold the Warriors to just two more shots on goals, as they earned their biggest win of the 2021 season.
