HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
Sophomore
Corey Clifton (Matawan, N.J.) and senior
Chris Peters (Fairport, N.Y.) each finished with a goal and an assist in the victory.
Â
Senior
Ethan Nitkin (Miami Beach, Fla.) added on a key insurance goal with 1:06 to play, to help the Beacons move to 3-0-0 at home this season.Â
Â
In net, sophomore
Connor McAnanama (Agawam, Mass.) made 22 saves on 23 shots to earn his second-straight victory. The sophomore has now allowed one goal in each of his last three appearances and made 49 saves on 51 shots in his last two starts.Â
Â
Anna Maria senior Patrick Manning scored his second goal in as many days for the visitors.Â
Â
Senior goalie Julius Huset recorded a season-high 49 saves on 52 shots in the loss. He made 20 saves in the first period alone, before tacking on 17 in the second and 12 in the final stanza.Â
Â
UMass Boston came out and dominated the first period, outshooting the Amcats 21-3, but struggled to light the lamp.
Â
After a tremendous shift by the Beacons fourth line, the top line finally broke the deadlock.
Alex Duncan (Andover, Mass.) cycled the puck to the blue line and Peters kept it in, before deking his way past two defenders and leaving the puck off for Clifton in the slot. The sophomore wristed a shot just underneath the bar for his second career goal and first at home at 15:51.Â
Â
The visitors tied the game 1:01 into the second. Manning skated the puck slowly up the ice and then sent a shot through traffic that McAnanama never saw for a 1-1 tie.Â
Â
UMass Boston answered right back with a power-play goal at 6:07.
Nolan Barrett (Wayne, N.J.) and Clifton played catch on the perimeter before Clifton elected to feed Peters below the goal line. The Beacons leading point scorer skated his way to the net mouth and roofed a backhand past Huset for a 2-1 edge.Â
Â
Anna Maria played the Beacons much more even in the third period and had three power-play chances to tie the game. Instead, the Beacons penalty killers did a fantastic job limiting the visitiors and created several Grade-A shorthanded chances.Â
Â
Nitkin put the game away at 18:54 of the third. After Huset made a great save on a backdoor shot,
Kolye Bankauskas (Coventry, R.I.) collected the puck and sent it out top to Barrett. The freshman bided his time and fed a wide-open Nitkin at the back post for an easy one-timer goal.Â
