BOSTON, Mass.—Three Beacons went 2-0 to lead UMass Boston women's tennis past rival UMass Dartmouth 5-4 on Senior Day at the B.C. High Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Meagan Carney (Arlington, Mass.),
Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and
Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) each earned two victories to help the Beacons earn a crucial Little East victory.
Prior to the start of singles play, UMass Boston honored their lone senior:
Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.).
The Beacons opened the match with a pair of big wins to earn a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.) and Vassiliadis collected an 8-1 victory at second doubles.
At number one doubles, Carney and Chan cruised past their opponents 8-1.
The Corsairs cut the deficit to 2-1 when Ailey Riddick and Jordan Beals defeated
Tanya Kibiy (Rockville, Md.) and Moriarty 8-4 at third doubles.
UMass Boston immediately extended their lead to 4-1 to start singles play, before having to hold on to clinch the overall match victory.
Chan dominated Emma Sokolovsky 6-0, 6-0 at second singles to make it 3-1 in favor of the hosts.
UMass Boston stretched their lead to 4-1, when Carney defeated Yasemin Kurtis 6-1, 6-2 at first-flight singles.
The Corsairs began their comeback at third singles. Jackie Bokis defeated Albano 6-1, 6-1 to make it 4-2.
UMass Dartmouth cut the deficit to 4-3, when Riddick earned a 6-3, 7-5 win over Moriarty at fifth singles.
With the match getting extremely tight, Vassiliadis launched a huge comeback at fourth singles. After dropping the first set 7-5, she stormed back to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-3 to earn a match-clinching 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Alanna O'Connell.
UMass Dartmouth closed out the match with a win at sixth singles. McKenzie Ferrari knocked off
Skylar Robles (Spokane, Wash.) 7-5, 6-2.
BY THE NUMBERS
- With the win, UMass Boston has won back-to-back matches against the Corsairs for the first time in program history. The Beacons had lost 18-straight matches to UMass Dartmouth, before their 5-4 win over UMass Dartmouth in 2019.
- Moriarty played in her 54th and 55th career matches on Saturday. She owns a 28-27 career record and stands 11th in program history with her 17 singles victories.
- Saturday's match was the Beacons first home contest since their season opener on September 11. The Beacons are now 2-0 at home this season and have won a season-high, three-straight matches.
- With the win, UMass Boston moves into sole possession of fourth place in the Little East Conference standings. With two matches to play, UMass Boston is one win away from clinching a top-four finish and a home match in at least the Little East Conference Quarterfinal Round.
