CASTLETON, Vt.—Each of the top four players in the Beacons lineup went 2-0, to lead UMass Boston women's tennis past host Castleton University 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Women's tennis capped their five-game road trip with a dominant 7-2 victory to secure back-to-back wins for the first this season. 
 
Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.), 
Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.), 
Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) and 
Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) each went 2-0 in the win over the Spartans. 
 
UMass Boston opened the match with a pair of wins to start doubles. 
 
Chan and Albano teamed up for an 8-0 win at first doubles in their first time playing together. 
 
The Beacons made it 2-0 when Vassiliadis and Moriarty teamed up for an 8-1 win at second doubles. 
 
Castleton cut the deficit in half when Megan Brier and Mia Manheimer defeated 
Aya Kamil (Weymouth, Mass.) and 
Gabby James (Weymouth, Mass.) 8-7 (8-2) at third-flight doubles. 
 
UMass Boston quickly secured the match victory with three-straight wins to start singles play. 
 
Chan was the first to finish, as she led Regina Marchese 6-0, 2-0 at number one singles, before Marchese was forced to retire. 
 
Albano gave the Beacons a 4-1 advantage when she knocked off Brier 6-1, 6-0 at third-flight singles. 
 
Moriarty clinched the win at fourth singles. The Beacons senior captain secured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Makayla Boisvert. 
 
Castleton earned their lone win in singles at sixth singles. Matilda Gutke defeated James 6-1, 6-0. 
 
Vassiliadis made it 6-2 Beacons with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Megan Hunt at second singles. 
 
In the final match to conclude, Kamil defeated Manheimer 8-6 in a shortened match at fifth singles.
BY THE NUMBERS
	- Kamil and James both made their collegiate debuts in the win. Kamil became the sixth Beacons rookie to win a match this season. 
 
	- With the win, UMass Boston evened the all-time series against the Spartans at three apiece. The Beacons have won the past three meetings by a 23-4 margin. 
 
	- Each of the Beacons doubles pairs were playing together for the first time this season and Vassiliadis was playing at second singles for the first time in 2021. 
 
	- The Beacons wrapped up their five-game road trip with a 3-2 mark.

UMass Boston returns home to host rival UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Beacons will honor Moriarty, their lone senior, before the match as part of their Senior Day festivities.
