BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston men's tennis raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles to earn a 7-2 win over Endicott College on Saturday afternoon in their spring opener.

THE BASICS

UMass Boston 7, Endicott College

(UMass Boston 2-1)
(Endicott College 0-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Roy Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and Nathan Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) each went 2-0, to lead UMass Boston to their first-ever win over the Gulls.

The Beacons opened the match with a 2-0 lead, because Endicott College only had five available players and was forced to forfeit points at third doubles and sixth singles.

UMass Boston pushed their advantage to 3-0, when Kevin Kubinec (East Boston, Mass.) and Platteel earned an 8-1 win at second doubles.

The Beacons claimed the clean sweep of doubles with an 8-3 victory at first doubles. Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) and N. Comerchero knocked off Endicott's Daniel Rinkert and Cooper Walters.

UMass Boston clinched the victory at third singles. Junior Alex Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) defeated Weston Goodwin 6-2, 6-4.

His brother Nathan Comerchero extended the lead to 6-0, when he slipped past Collin DiNardo 7-5, 6-2 at fifth singles.

UMass Boston earned their final point at fourth singles. Platteel knocked off Walters 7-5, 6-0.

Endicott got on the board with a hard-fought win at first singles. Brennan Nick was able to hold off Shah 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

In the final match of the day, Rinkert defeated Kubinec 7-5, 6-3 at second singles.
