BOSTON, Mass. – Katie Gauthier (West Boylston, Mass.) collected the lone win as Simmons University handed women's tennis an 8-1 non-conference loss Wednesday afternoon at Daly Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Gauthier recorded her third win of the 2018 season at first singles when she defeated Nickie Nguyen by the final of 6-0, 2-6, 10-7. Valerie Tueme (Bonney Lake, Wash.) also played a close match at second singles but was defeated by Marissa Johnson by the final of 6-1, 7-5.
To start the match, Simmons earned a pair of 8-4 wins, and had an 8-1 win at second doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Beacons heading into singles play.
At third singles, Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Paolo Rios to finish as the only other Beacon to record points in both sets.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Wednesday's match marked the fifth time that UMass Boston has faced Simmons University
- The Beacons have now dropped four-straight to the Sharks, but has one win over Simmons which they recorded on October 9, 2001 (5-3)
