BRISTOL, R.I.—Roger Williams University handed UMass Boston men's tennis a 9-0 loss in the Beacons' season opener Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The host Hawks dropped just six games in three doubles victories en route to a 9-0 win in their season opener.
Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.), Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa), Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and Tin Tran (Quincy, Mass.) all made their collegiate debuts in the loss for UMass Boston.
Roger Williams opened the match with doubles wins of 8-3, 8-3 and 8-0 over the Beacons, with all four of the Beacons newcomers making their debuts.
The Hawks quickly pushed their lead to 6-0, as Sanshrut Sharma (Mumbai, India), Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, Okla.) and Austin DeLasse (Mexico City, Mexico) suffered losses at fourth, second and first singles respectively.
Roger Williams made it 7-0, when Matt Russo held off Tran 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles.
Thomas O'Leary tacked on an eighth points for the hosts, as the freshman defeated Mokoka 6-2, 6-2 in fifth singles.
In the tightest match of the day by far, Comerchero went the distance with Nick Spoor in the first set. After holding a 5-2 lead in the first set, Comerchero couldn't hang on and ended up falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in third singles.
