(Norwich 15-7-2, 10-5-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a scoreless first and a four-goal second period, the Cadets scored two minutes into a five-minute power-play and tacked on a goal midway through the period, to hand the Beacons their first road conference loss of the year.

Seniors Alex Demchuk (Calgary, Alberta) and Derek Colucci (North Scituate, R.I.) scored the lone two goals on the day for UMass Boston.

In net, senior Billy Faust (Alta Loma, Calif.) tied his season-high with 37 saves, but was also charged with all four goals.

Norwich junior forward Paul Russell carried the Cadets' offense, as he finished with a hat trick. Kevin Salvucci added the game-winner on the five-minute major penalty, after Colucci was sent off at the end of the third for a game misconduct.

Braden Ostepchuck improved to 12-4-1 by making 28 saves on 30 shots for the hosts.

Neither side could get anything going in the opening stanza, as they two teams combined for just 17 shots, with Norwich owning a 12-5 advantage.

Russell opened the scoring in the second just 40 seconds in, off a pass from Dean Niezgoda.

The lead wouldn't hold up for long, as Demchuk scored his second goal of the season against Norwich and fourth goal of his collegiate career at 2:48. The senior rifled a shot past Ostepchuck for an unassisted tally.

UMass Boston took the lead less than 90 seconds later, with Colucci scoring at 4:15 to make it 2-1 in favor of the visitors. Senior Frankie DeAugustine (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Garrison Sanipass (Northrook, Ill.) picked up assists on the play.

Russell evened the game at 2-2 just before the second intermission, when he snapped a shot past Faust's glove to tie the game at 19:42.

Things went from bad to worse for UMass Boston, as Colucci was sent off at 19:54.

After killing off the first 2:05 of the penalty, Salvucci made the Beacons pay off a pass from Alec Brandrup.

Russell tacked on an insurance goal at 9:58, with Salvucci registering an assist on the play.
