BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since 2008, women's tennis picked-up a conference victory over the Huskies of the University of Southern Maine as the Beacons earned an 8-1 win Tuesday afternoon at Boston College High School Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons, looking for their first victory over the Huskies since October 11, 2008, jumped out to a decisive 3-0 lead after dominating doubles play by the finals of 8-1, 8-2, and 8-3.
In singles play Meghan Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) made it 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Margret Smith at fifth flight. Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) would secure the Beacons second conference win of 2015 as she took a 6-3, 6-1 decision at first flight. Nurcin Celebi (Istanbul, Turkey) continued UMB's winning trend as she picked-up a 6-1, 6-0 at third flight.
The lone point by the Huskies came in the fourth flight when Kara Weiske earned a 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 win to end the Beacons shutout bid.
Also earning wins in singles play were Logan Smith (Southwick, Mass.) and Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.) with 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-1 victories respectively.
BY THE NUMBERS
- With Tuesday's victory, the Beacons are now 4-14 all-time against the Huskies
